Somerford Accessory and Tuning Parts Catalogue

This is the big Somerford Mini news of the year! Whilst our ground breaking website and parts catalogues are now very well established, we have not been sitting on our laurels! Very soon our new accessories and tuning parts catalogue will be available both on-line and in printed form. This will be a bumper, full colour catalogue, packed full with hundreds of your favourite products.

It will feature parts from all the big brand manufacturers as well as many new ones. These will be available to buy on-line or from our shop.

New Product

Not the most exciting part Somerford has ever re made, but if you are trying to restore a hydrolastic Mini I’m sure you will be very grateful for these. They connect the flexi hose on the rear displacer to the schrader valve used to pressurise the system. The originals were cast, whereas we have machined these from steel.

1st Motion Bearing Puller

If you have ever spent hours of frustration trying to remove the first motion shaft bearing outer race, damaging the casing along the way, your problems are now over!

Somerford Mini have re-made and upgraded the original factory service tool. This used to be made by V L Churchill and was issued to all BMC dealers.

The puller easily removes the outer race of the first motion support bearing without the need to heat up the casing or use levers and die grinders. It removes all bearings with the exception of very early 3 synchro. casings with no cut outs below the race and also the larger metro turbo type.

Vinyl cover for factory fitted folding sunroof

Somerford Mini have come to the rescue yet again! Many of our customers have been in total despair because for the last 4 years or so replacement parts have not been available. Rover and the original manufacturer have turned the part down leaving thousands of minis with leaking sunroofs.

We have now addressed this problem and had new covers made in high quality vinyl to the original specification. There is an added bonus because these are considerably cheaper than the original Rover part!

We have also re-made the section of headlining that fits on the underside of the roof.

SEAT BELT MOUNTING KIT

This kit allows rear seat belts to be properly fitted to all Mini saloons before they were fitted as standard to the rear bulkhead around 1980 with ‘C’ post mountings being introduced around 1995.

The kit consists of 5 original factory specification brackets which need to be welded to the bodyshell. Once fitted they are virtually invisible, being hidden by your Mini’s standard trim thus preserving the original look of the car – an essential safety feature for all Classic Mini.

GENUINE ROVER SUNVISOR

We only have a few of these as Rover has now discontinued them and sold them off. They are white both sides and do not have a mirror, making them suitable for RH or LH use. They also come complete with mounting pegs (unlike the aftermarket versions) making them even better value for money.

New Parts Added To Shop

SPORTS PACK WHEEL ARCH STUD
Anyone with a post ’96 Sports Pack Mini will have experienced this annoying problem: When you unscrew the nut that holds on the wheel arch it takes the stud with it, sometimes damaging the arch.

These parts were never serviced by Rover, but now Somerford Mini have stepped in. We can now offer new studs which fit all factory fitted wheel arches.

Every Mini uses them, but the handbrake cable guide, sealing pads and screws used to route the cable rearward of the handbrake lever, are no longer available from Rover. Thanks to Somerford Mini however, these easily lost items can now be purchased as a complete kit with a single part number.

Somerford Mini has stepped in to reproduce another part which is discontinued by Rover This time it’s the turn of the primary gear backing washer. This top quality item is made from high grade steel and is suitable for all classic Minis from 1962 on.

Ever since the Mini went out of production mini enthusiasts all over the World have mourned the loss of the 3.1:1 diff….. until now!

Somerford Mini can now offer a genuine Rover 59 tooth A+ crown wheel and a high quality 19 tooth A+ pinion, making one of the most sought after and versatile final drives available again.

New washer bottle mounting hardware

Although only small parts, these are vital for anyone refitting their washer bottles on MK1 and 2 Minis. They have been unavailable for some years now and we are pleased to announce they have now been introduced.

These parts were used on all models from 1959 through to 1975. The bulk head bracket was the same throughout this period whilst the early cars (we reckon up to Autumn ’63) used a wire clip to retain the bottle, with the later ones using a flat steel version.

Fuel filters and associated pipework- SPI and MPI

Due to an error on the original Rover parts drawing there has been massive confusion when it comes to replacing the fuel filter on injected Minis.

The main problem has been that the outlet pipe from the filter required on injected cars from ’98 on had never been made available as a spare part. Somerford Mini has now made the correct specification part and therefore resolved the problem.

In about 1998 the fuel filter spec. was changed to one using smaller inlet and outlet unions. This meant that the inlet adaptor used prior to ’98 could be discarded but a new outlet pipe with a smaller diameter union would be needed; this is the part that Rover neglected to offer as a spare. Indeed they didn’t recognise it on the parts drawing!

	17H7913 - 997/998cc BRAKE CALIPER PISTON Another product revivied by Somerford Mini. We have had this re-made in stainless steel to avoid the all too familiar corrosion problems associated with the originals. Fits all 997cc & 998cc Coopers. £12.14 incl. VAT each

	GWW940 - WASHER BOTTLE (1988 – 92) This product has been unavailable for a number of years. It has caused major problems for many people as there is not really a satisfactory alternative. This is the long tapered item which fits to the RH inner wing. It is made to the original spec. on the original tooling. £44.06 incl. VAT each

	12A1433 - CARBURETTOR ELBOW SEAL Fits all HS carbs and goes between the elbow and air filter box. It’s only a small seal but it prevents unwanted dirt getting into the engine, as well as preventing that annoying induction ‘hiss’. £2.23 incl. VAT each

Catalogue Downloads Policy Statemment

For many years Somerford Mini Limited traded without providing catalogues for their customers. A strange situation you may think for a company selling products via mail order.

Peter Hines M.D. knew this was not ideal, but always stated there was no point in producing a catalogue unless it was fully comprehensive and could also be used as a valuable resource – something that had never been achieved before within the industry.

The reasons for holding back with this idea were limited resources and finances. However as the Company grew, this situation changed and in 2003 work commenced.

As I am sure you can appreciate, this was a monumental task which took 4 years and 10’s of thousands of pounds to complete. It is now the benchmark Mini catalogue and resource tool. Something that we as a Company are immensely proud of.

Not content with this, the next stage was to make the catalogue fully inter-active within our e-shop. Another massive and daunting task!

However work has started as you can see and is ongoing. Again this is slow and costly.

Where a section of the catalogue has not been made interactive, we have provided .pdf documents for customers. You are able to look up part numbers and contact us for the price and availability.

When the website was first launched you were able to access these but not download them. This brought about a number of complaints from some customers. We listened to these comments and then made the .pdf documents available as free downloads.

This provoked even more strong comments and complaints – which is quite upsetting.

Because of this we have decided to provide the .pdf’s both ways: To view on the site or to download for a small charge, rather like i tunes. Alternatively you can purchase a C.D. rom containing all of our 12,000 products. One of the advantages of this is a much, much faster download time.

I would ask that you remain patient and keep revisiting the site. More sections of the catalogue will be added to the e-shop just as they are complete – it will be worth waiting for!

Steering Racks

We have had Mini steering racks re-manufactured. Both Genuine Rover and aftermarket racks all but disappeared about 8 months ago, leaving Mini owners with a big problem.

It has taken a while but we are now able to offer brand new RHD and LHD racks outright. We are very pleased with the quality and feel they are far superior to the old ones. Priced at £52.00 incl. VAT.

New Mechanic:

Somerford Mini are very pleased to announce the appointment of a new mechanic. Gavin Parish joined us recently and it brings our workshop team up to full strength.

Gavin brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge having worked in the motor industry for a few years. He is a Mini nut and says he has found his dream job!

We are delighted to welcome him aboard.

Rover Parts:

We have recently done a deal with XParts who are responsible for distributing genuine Rover products. They have cleared out a huge amount of stock which Somerford Mini have purchased. This totals over 1600 product lines which are still being delivered to us. So far we have received 6 articulated lorry loads!

There is a very wide range of parts from interiors, carpets, dashboards, instruments through to engine and gearbox parts.
